Community Wildfire Safety Program
Expanding our efforts to prevent wildfires
The Community Wildfire Safety Program launched in 2018 to help keep customers and communities safe. Wildfire risk is increasing in California, so we are making our system safer.
Enhancing powerline safety settings
Our lines turn off power within one-tenth of a second if a problem is detected. These settings are known as Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings.

Keeping powerlines safe
We reduce power outages and wildfire risk through year-round vegetation work. We also perform more work in high fire-risk areas to help keep communities safe.

Do you live in a high fire-threat area?
The California Public Utilities Commission worked with CAL FIRE and others to develop a Fire-Threat Map of California. View the CPUC Fire-Threat Map. The map shows places with a high risk of wildfires that could put people and property in danger.
- Tier 3 areas are at extreme risk for wildfire
- Tier 2 areas are at elevated risk for wildfire
- Zone 1 High Hazard Zones are areas with high numbers of dead and dying trees
