What is AMP?
If you’re enrolled in CARE or FERA, you may be eligible for up to $8,000 in debt forgiveness through AMP.
Eligible customers who make 12 full monthly payments on time qualify for the full AMP forgiveness.
How does AMP work?
- Enroll in AMP.
- Complete each on-time and in-full monthly payment.
- PG&E will deduct the amount of “monthly debt eligible for forgiveness” from your monthly bill for the next 12 months.
- You need to make 12 full monthly payments on time to qualify for the full AMP forgiveness.
Who is eligible for AMP?
Residential customers who:
- Are enrolled in California Alternative Rates for Energy (CARE) or Family Electric Rate Assistance Program (FERA).
- Owe at least $500 or more on your gas and electric bill
- Owe at least $250 or more on your gas bill (for gas-only customers)
- Are more than 90 days past due
- Have been a PG&E customer for at least 6 months
- Have made at least one payment on time
Note: Net energy metering (NEM), master-metered customers and master-metered customers with sub-metered tenants aren’t eligible to participate in AMP.
How to enroll in AMP
Apply online:
- Log into your PG&E account online
- Go to your My Account dashboard.
- Under “Assistance Programs,” click “AMP program.”
- If you receive the “You are eligible for the AMP program” message, click the “Enroll Now” button.
- Read the required acknowledgement
- Click “I Acknowledge”
- “You’re enrolled in the AMP program.”
Apply by phone:
- Call us at 1-877-660-6789. Our automated service will inform you if you are eligible for the Arrearage Management Plan (AMP).
- Eligible customers can apply by phone through our automated enrollment service or with a customer service representative.
- Log in to your PG&E account
- Select “View your Arrearage Management Program” located on the left side of your PG&E account dashboard
- Once selected, your current AMP enrollment details will display in the enrollment detail table
You need to make 12 full monthly payments on time to qualify for the full AMP forgiveness.
You can miss up to two payments, but they can’t be two months in a row. If you pay both the current bill and the missed payment(s) by the next billing due date, you will stay in the program.
If you miss two consecutive payments or three payments in total, you will be withdrawn from the program.
You’ll be unenrolled from AMP. However, you won’t owe any part of the amount already forgiven by AMP.
Yes, the maximum amount eligible for AMP forgiveness is $8,000. If your outstanding balance exceeds $8,000, the remaining balance will be considered an overage. The overage will be "held" separately until the end of the AMP enrollment.
Your outstanding balance—the amount not forgiven by AMP—will be deferred until you:
- Complete the 12-month AMP program or
- Are unenrolled from the AMP program
Yes, but you can only be on one payment plan at a time. Your existing pay plan will be cancelled prior to AMP enrollment.
Per the rules of the program, customers must wait 12 months after their last AMP-enrolled payment to re-enroll.
Yes, CCA customers are eligible to participate. However, they must meet the qualifications listed above under "Who is eligible?" and their CCA must agree to participate. If your CCA is participating, then both your PG&E charges and your CCA balances will be eligible for the program. If your CCA is not offering AMP, then only PG&E's charges will be eligible for forgiveness. The charges from your CCA do not qualify for this program. To learn more, contact your CCA provider.
Yes, but only partially. The PG&E charges will be eligible for forgiveness for qualified customers. However, the monthly gas charges from your CTA are not included in the AMP eligibility calculations.
Yes, but only partially. Electric Service Provider's (ESP) electricity commodity charges are not included in the AMP eligibility calculations.
Yes, you can participate in REACH and LIHEAP. Any financial assistance payments (pledges) from the LIHEAP program would be applied to current charges while enrolled in AMP.
No. Your LIHEAP payments apply only to current and future charges. If you are enrolled in AMP, your LIHEAP payments cannot be applied to any debt amount eligible for AMP debt forgiveness.
