PG&E and contracted Third Party programs offer programs for customers to save or earn money by adjusting energy usage. Participation also helps balance the electric grid without producing emissions.
Sign up for a PG&E program or select a program from another demand response provider. Note that some private companies contract with PG&E, while others are independent.
Get discounted rates throughout the year, except during nine to 15 “events” (four-hour blocks) when the electric system is strained and rates are higher. Events typically occur on the hottest days of summer.

The Excess Supply Demand Response Pilot (XSP) and Supply Side II Demand Response Pilot (SSP II) are testing new and innovative applications for demand response.
The Excess Supply Demand Response Pilot (XSP) is expected to run through 2020 and is focused on testing the capabilities of price‐responsive demand‐side resources to shift/increase load as a service to the grid during times of anticipated excess supply of renewables generation and/or negative wholesale energy prices. Depending on market conditions, participants may be asked to increase their usage during certain hours of the day.
Customers who are eligible to enroll directly in the Excess Supply Demand Response Pilot may do so through their PG&E Online Account. Customers who prefer to or are required to enroll through an aggregator should contact their aggregator to discuss enrollment.
The Supply Side II Demand Response Pilot (SSP II) is expected to run through 2020 and is designed to study the feasibility of demand‐side resources that are participating in the wholesale energy market to also provide distribution services. Participants in the SSP II nominate their availability to provide demand response and are bid into the wholesale energy market, similar to other market integrated Demand Response programs. However, in addition to being dispatched due to wholesale market awards, all or part of the participant’s resource may be dispatched to test if Demand Response resources can be used to help the distribution grid.
Customers who are eligible to enroll directly in the Supply Side II Demand Response Pilot may do so through their PG&E Online Account. Customers who prefer to or are required to enroll through an aggregator should contact their aggregator to discuss enrollment.
When you enroll in select energy incentive programs, you'll also be eligible for equipment rebates and added incentives through Automated Demand Response.
The Optional Binding Mandatory Curtailment Plan is currently active, but is full and therefore closed to new enrollment.
The Scheduled Load Reduction Program is currently closed to new enrollment.
The Permanent Load Shift Program is currently closed to new enrollment.
Electric Rule 24 provides PG&E electricity customers the opportunity to enroll in demand response programs offered by third-party Demand Response Providers, including those listed above. Under Rule 24, customers are not allowed to participate in a PG&E demand response program and a third-party DRP program during the same period.
