Backup power support

The rebate is $300 per qualified customer. If you participate in PG&E's CARE or FERA programs, you may receive an additional $200.

important notice Note: We are not responsible for providing backup power during power outages. We will provide as much support as possible for energy solutions.

Program eligibility

To qualify, you must satisfy the following:

  • Have an active residential or business PG&E account
  • Located in Tier 2 or 3 High Fire-Threat Districts (HFTD)

     OR

 

  • Serviced by an Enhanced Power Safety Settings (EPSS) circuit

 

important notice Note:

  • Rebates are limited to one per household. Applications must be submitted within 12 months from the purchase date or by December 31, 2025, whichever date is sooner.
  • Customer must provide proof of purchase and proof of delivery. The application cannot be submitted until the product has been delivered and received.

Portable Generators

 

important notice Note: If the portable generator is not on our approved list, follow these steps to check if it would qualify:

 

  1. Go to the website for the company that made the generator.
  2. Type the model number into the website search. (The model number can usually be found on the generator or in the product manual.)
  3. Review the product specifications.
  4. If the specifications show "CARB compliant - Yes", then email GeneratorBatteryRebateProgram@pge.com to ensure the product qualifies.

 

Portable Batteries

  • Cannot be greater than 1kWh (1,000Wh)
  • Cannot be less than 290Wh

important notice Note: 1 kWh is the maximum capacity limit. If the product is 1,024Wh, 1057Wh, or 2,000Wh, these are over the limit and would not qualify. You may find examples of qualified portable batteries on our qualified product list (XLSX).

 

If the portable battery is not on our approved list, follow these steps to check if it would qualify:

 

  1. Go to the website for the company that made the battery.
  2. Type the model number into the website search. (The model number can usually be found on the battery or in the product manual.)
  3. Review the product specifications.
  4. If the specifications show the capacity is not less than 290Wh and not greater than 1,000Wh, then email GeneratorBatteryRebateProgram@pge.com to ensure the product qualifies.

 

AND

 

  • Generator or Portable Battery cannot fall under any of the following exclusions:
    • Resale, rebuilt, refurbished, open-box, rented, or leased for less than five years
    • Batteries received from warranty or insurance claims, exchanged, or won as a prize
    • Those with new parts installed in existing battery or discounted by PG&E at the point of sale
    • USB power stations, USB power banks, power inverters, non-integrated batteries, car batteries, and commercial power stations

Seamless Transition to Power

The generator you purchased may be compatible with PG&E's Backup Power Transfer Meter Program (BPTM) for an almost seamless transition to switch power from the grid to your generator in the event of an outage.
