Public Safety Power Shutoff support

medical resource icon We work every day to provide safe and reliable service. As a last resort to keep you safe, we might turn off power during high winds to prevent a wildfire. This is called a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS).

Extra support is available if you or someone in your home relies on power for health and safety. We offer additional resources to keep you safe before, during and after a PSPS, including increased alerts and notifications.

Resources are available in various languages to help you prepare for a PSPS.

Update contact information

Get additional PSPS alerts

Alerts will be sent before a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) via call, text and email. Medical Baseline or Self-Identified Vulnerable customers who do not respond may receive extra PSPS alerts, including hourly calls and doorbell rings. This is to make sure they are aware of the PSPS and can prepare.

It is important to review and update your contact information so we can reach you.

If your health or safety would be at risk if the power was shut off, let PG&E know. There are programs to support you and ensure you receive extra PSPS alerts when needed.

Food and meal replacement

Food in your freezer or refrigerator can spoil if your power goes out. If you experience food loss during a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), we’re here to offer support. We partner with:

  • Local food banks to provide food replacement during a PSPS and up to three days after. Food is available while supplies last. Some food banks may have income restrictions.
  • Meals on Wheels to deliver meals for eligible seniors. To qualify for this service, you must be 60 years or older, or the spouse of a person aged 60 or older. You must also be at risk of malnutrition and unable to visit a Meals on Wheels center. If you already take part in the program and experience a PSPS, you'll get an extra meal for each day of the PSPS.
