We work every day to provide safe and reliable service. As a last resort to keep you safe, we might turn off power during high winds to prevent a wildfire. This is called a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS).
Extra support is available if you or someone in your home relies on power for health and safety. We offer additional resources to keep you safe before, during and after a PSPS, including increased alerts and notifications.
Resources are available in various languages to help you prepare for a PSPS.

Alerts will be sent before a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) via call, text and email. Medical Baseline or Self-Identified Vulnerable customers who do not respond may receive extra PSPS alerts, including hourly calls and doorbell rings. This is to make sure they are aware of the PSPS and can prepare.
It is important to review and update your contact information so we can reach you.
If your health or safety would be at risk if the power was shut off, let PG&E know. There are programs to support you and ensure you receive extra PSPS alerts when needed.
Address alerts can notify you about a potential PSPS at any address that’s important to you or a loved one. You do not need to be the account holder for the address.
If you rely on power for certain medical needs, you may be eligible for the Medical Baseline Program. It includes:
If you are a Medical Baseline customer, you may qualify to get a portable backup battery. A portable battery can help keep devices powered in case of a power outage.
To help reduce the impact of PSPS on customers, we want to make backup power more accessible. If you qualify for this program, we’ll offer you a $300 rebate on a generator or battery.
The Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP) can help you save on energy storage systems. SGIP offers rebates for battery storage. Battery storage can be a key part of your preparedness plan if the power goes out.
The Disability Disaster Access and Resources (DDAR) Program is a collaboration between PG&E and the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers. If you have medical and independent living needs, the program may benefit you. DDAR can help you:
To provide support when it's needed the most, we partner with the California Network of 211s. 211 is a free, confidential, 24/7 service that can help you find local support during a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). 211 can also assist with emergency planning.
Community Resource Centers (CRC) offer a safe place to find supplies and get updates during a Public Safety Power Shutoff. Centers may provide:
Transportation to Community Resource Centers
If you need accessible transportation to a CRC, these partners can help you:
You can call 211 for help finding transport locally. Or, if you are enrolled in the DDAR Program, they can also assist you.
Food and meal replacement
Food in your freezer or refrigerator can spoil if your power goes out. If you experience food loss during a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), we’re here to offer support. We partner with:
Hotel stays and discounts
If you experience a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), you may be able to get a discounted hotel stay. If you are in the Disability Disaster Access and Resources (DDAR) Program, reach out to them about getting an accessible hotel stay. If you do not qualify for the DDAR Program, the following hotels offer discounts if you experience a PSPS:
Vacancy may vary based on season and is not guaranteed. PG&E is not affiliated with these hotels and is not responsible for hotel stays.
If you need translation help to understand and prepare for a PSPS, the language resources and partnerships listed below are available for support. Our partners can also assist with translations in more than 240 languages. Call 1-866-743-6589 to learn more.
