Payment plan

What is a payment plan?

A payment plan, also known as a payment arrangement, allows you to break up your existing balance into smaller monthly payments.

  • Pay current charges and payment plans on time. This helps ensure your power is not shut off for non-payment.
  • You can pay off your payment plan early without any penalty. Call us at 1-877-660-6789.
  • Once you set up a payment plan, you cannot change it or opt to extend your due date.

How a payment plan works

  • You agree to make payments for the outstanding balance and pay your regular monthly bills on time.
  • You set new due dates to break your outstanding balance into smaller payments.
    • If you set up a payment plan, the due date of your regular monthly bill must remain the same. You may need to make two separate payments on two separate days. One payment is your existing monthly bill and the other is your payment arrangement.
  •  If you break a payment plan, you may not be offered a payment plan in the future and could have your service shut off.

When you are on a payment plan, you will have multiple due dates for your bill each month. Bill and payment alerts can help you stay organized and on time.

Payment plan FAQ

When you have a payment plan, you are agreeing to pay:

  • The current charges and
  • The agreed payment plan amount every month until the payment plan is fulfilled

These dollar amounts are visible on your bill each month. You can also view your monthly bill in your account online. Online, you can see your entire payment schedule, including all future due dates (see below).

You can only cancel your payment plan by paying off the total balance. Once your payment plan balance is paid off, it will be closed.

Unfortunately, we cannot make changes to an existing payment plan. This is why it is important to repay your payment plan as well as pay new charges each month.

If you have missed an arranged payment, visit payment options to see if you qualify for another arrangement and to get more information on other assistance programs.

Yes, but you must agree to make the payment. A payment and/or a payment plan on your outstanding balance will allow you to have your service restored.

  • You cannot change your extended due date or switch to a payment plan.

Would you prefer your bill to auto-pay on a pre-selected date?

Check to see if your bank has an auto-pay program. This could help you ensure payments are made at a convenient time.

The due date for your PG&E charges is always three weeks after your bill comes out. You may pay your bill at any time in that three-week period. You do not have to wait until the due date.

  • If you are unable to pay before your due date, PG&E does not add any fees for a past-due payment.
  • If possible, we recommend you make your payment prior to your next bill date. This will avoid late or missed payments.
  • You may also set up a payment plan or extend your due date online by logging into Your Account or over the phone by calling 1-800-743-5000.
  • Visit our Ways to Pay Your PG&E bill page for options on making your payments including steps to set up auto-pay, also known as recurring payments.

Normally, you are not required to pay your bill all at once. It is fine to make multiple payments or partial payments, as long as the total balance is paid by the due date.
