Open Houses Provide Community with Opportunity to Get Involved and Provide Feedback on Potential Transmission Line Routes
Paso Robles, Calif. - In December 2015 and January 2016, the Paso Robles Area Power Connect team held a series of join open houses with NextEra Energy Transmission West (NEET West) to introduce the project to the community. Attendees had the opportunity to discuss details of the project with team members, ask questions and provide feedback on potential transmission line routes and substation locations. The meetings were held in Paso Robles at the Paso Robles Event Center, Elks Lodge and Park Ballroom, and attracted dozens of area residents representing local ranches, vineyards and the Paso Robles Rotary Club, among other groups.
"Paso Robles Area Power Connect is vital in our efforts to provide safe, clean, reliable and affordable electricity to our local customers. We appreciate the residents and business owners who took the time to attend and provide feedback on this project. The local community input is invaluable in helping to shape the decision making process until the proposed project is completed," said Pat Mullen, director of local customer experience for PG&E's Los Padres Division.
PG&E is committed to engaging with the community in the development of Paso Robles Area Power Connect. While a final route has not yet been identified, input received through our outreach has helped us identify four potential routes that could connect NEET West's proposed Estrella Substation sites to the existing San Miguel-Paso Robles 70 kV transmission line. Our December and January open houses represented a key step in our outreach in which we presented these potential transmission line routes to the community. These routes are outlined in detail on our interactive map.
In addition to the open houses, the project team has been working closely with local community leaders, government agencies and regional organizations and launched an interactive website to provide the community with multiple avenues for engaging in the project.
Those interested in learning more about Paso Robles Area Power Connect or submitting comments may visit the project website. We will continue to gather public feedback and work with environmental and engineering experts to further refine these routes to identify a potential transmission line route with the least overall impacts.
