Our 10-Year Electrical Undergrounding Plan (EUP)

Improving wildfire safety and reliability in your community

Visit our undergrounding webpage for more about our progress.

About Our Long-Term Undergrounding Plans

Every day we are working to make our electric system safer and more reliable using multiple layers of wildfire protection. This includes placing powerlines underground and upgrading overhead powerlines in and near high wildfire-risk areas. By the end of 2027, we anticipate having completed nearly 1,900 miles of this important wildfire safety undergrounding work.

We look forward to receiving Phase 1 approval of our Electrical Undergrounding Plan (EUP) from the California Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety), made possible through Senate Bill 884. Following Energy Safety's approval of the EUP, PG&E will file a Phase 2 application with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) seeking approval of the plan's costs and funding for implementation.

This longer-term planning framework will allow us to efficiently reduce wildfire risk and outages for customers in the highest-risk areas over the next decade (2028–2037).

PG&E Electrical Undergrounding Plan Progress Reports

Following the start of the EUP, and every six months thereafter, we will provide progress reports to:

  • Provide updates about our performance in accomplishing what is outlined in our plan and how the plan is being implemented.
  • Share other information and updates intended to improve communication, community preparedness and regional coordination.

PG&E will post its first Progress Report here once available.
