Call 811 before you dig to keep your home and community safe.
Having your lines marked 2 days before any digging project will help keep you safe!
Underneath our feet is a system of complex lines delivering natural gas, electricity and other utilities to our homes. If you plan on digging a hole — big or small — on your property, be sure to call 811 to have your lines marked. Having your lines marked will help you avoid injuries, property damage and costly repairs (approximately $3,500).
If you are planning a digging project, join an 811 Safe Digging Webinar to learn more.
What to do
You can start by marking the location where you need to dig with chalk, white paint or flags.
PRO TIP: You need to call 811 for any size digging project including planting a tree, removing a stump, replacing a fence or irrigation work.
Call 811 at least two working days before you plan to start your project.
A PG&E representative will visit and mark gas and electrical line locations for free.
Once your lines are safely marked, you can move forward with your digging project!
