From nature scenes to city skylines, coworker Jordan Herren spends countless hours bringing color and creativity to the Bay Area.

As a contemporary artist, Herren has been featured in several galleries and outdoor murals throughout the Bay Area, but his favorite is his World Cup Mural in the San Francisco Ferry Building.  He painted the original mural in 2022. A few months ago, he was asked if he could alter the mural to give it a World Cup theme to coincide with the matches in Santa Clara County.

“The Ferry Building is one of the most iconic, if not the most iconic building in San Francisco, so of course I was up for it,” Herren said.

The mural took about three weeks to complete using regular house paint.

“I likely could have finished it sooner, but I worked with specific painting windows coordinated with the Ferry Building’s engineering team due to the building’s high foot traffic and the use of paint materials indoors,” he said. “During the final week, I was working for PG&E full time during the day and painting at the Ferry Plaza in the evening.”

Herren has lived in the Bay area his whole life and has worked for PG&E for over five years. As a member of the Marketing Strategy team, he enjoys being creative and using his skills to show the community what PG&E is all about.

“I feel like we all cheer Jordan on as a part of his creative fan club,” said Senior Marketing Manager Erik Olsen. “I think the fact that they brought him back again to update the Ferry Plaza mural for the World Cup speaks a lot to his talent and his passion for art.”

Though maintaining a healthy work-life balance can be difficult, the trick is finding a job where you can work, raise a family and still have time for things you love doing, Jordan said.

“I love the work I do at PG&E, and I love doing my artwork,” Herren said. “I think having passions outside of work is important and I want other people to see my art and celebrate the energy and diversity of the city like I do.”
