Right Tree, Right Place Program Makes Big Strides This Year with More Than 2,000 Donations
PG&E knows how important trees are to our customers, which is why we also have a dedicated team that partners with our local communities to help plant new trees at safe distances from PG&E facilities, beautifying our hometowns.
Between January and May of this year, PG&E donated more than 2,400 trees and small plants to customers across the service territory through our Right Tree, Right Place program and encouraged recipients to practice safe planting at their homes.
Through the Right Tree, Right Place program, PG&E coworkers supported 28 events in communities throughout our service territory to share the importance of safe planting and how to reduce wildfire risk in our neighborhoods.
“It’s a joy to meet with our customers in person,” said Bill Litel, senior program manager for Vegetation Management.
“Connecting on what kind of plant or tree will thrive in a customer’s region, when placed far enough away from our facilities, helps beautify our communities while keeping them safe," he added. "We know trees are important to the local beauty, health and quality of our hometowns, and we are proud of our work with local nurseries and organizations to support local events, parks, and community needs.”
You may have seen us under bright blue PG&E tents at these local events, ranging from Earth Day festivities in Oroville to the famous Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee.
PG&E plant experts and Certified Arborists were available to answer questions and share educational materials about safe planting, selecting the right trees, plant care, and creating defensible space around homes and utility facilities with our customers.
Throughout these events, PG&E partnered with local nurseries to give away 767 trees and 1,650 small plants to customers. In addition, we had the opportunity to work with local organizations to plant donated trees, including:
- The Benicia Tree Foundation
- The Butte Environmental Council (BEC)
- The Chico Area Recreation & Park District (CARD)
- The Environmental Center of San Luis Obispo (ECOSLO)
- The City of San Luis Obispo
- The City of Fresno
- Fresno State Athletics
- The City of Angels Camp
- The Hope Plaza Project
- The Rebuild Paradise Foundation
PG&E is dedicated to giving back to its communities through tree donations and providing safe planting education to help our customers plant the Right Tree in the Right Place. These donations and events are just one of the many ways PG&E is working to reduce wildfire risk, support our hometowns and invest in local environments.
