Building strong communities with affordable, renewable energy
Partnering with Habitat for Humanity to fund solar panels
Since 2005, PG&E has worked with Habitat for Humanity on the Better Together Solar Habitat program. This program funds the full cost of solar panels for new Habitat-built homes in our service territory throughout Northern and Central California. This first-of-its-kind partnership brings solar energy to families with limited incomes, furthering our commitment to provide affordable, renewable energy in the communities we serve. In addition to solar panels, PG&E also provides resources to Habitat affiliates to help build greener and more sustainable housing.
Saving energy costs and reducing carbon emissions
The solar panels installed on Habitat homes generate nearly 300 kilowatt-hours of clean, renewable energy each month. The panels also produce cleaner energy by eliminating more than 132,000 pounds of carbon dioxide over the system’s estimated 30-year life.
Because of these solar panels, each family in a Habitat home can save approximately $500 a year in energy costs. These energy and cost savings support Habitat for Humanity’s mission to promote affordable housing for everyone.

"When I volunteer, I get to hear the person's story about how they are trying to get back on their feet. It opens your eyes ... I like giving back to these organizations that help out. It’s a great feeling."
