Overview
PG&E is relicensing the Mokelumne River Hydroelectric Project (FERC Project No. 137). This page provides documents and resources related to the relicensing proceeding. This information is for agencies, community organizations, Tribes, interested parties and members of the public.
PG&E will update this site periodically.
Project description
PG&E owns and operates the Mokelumne River Hydroelectric Project in Amador, Calaveras and Alpine counties in California. The project is located on the North Fork Mokelumne River and tributaries, as well as mainstem Mokelumne River. It includes facilities on federal lands. These federal lands are managed by:
- Eldorado National Forest
- Stanislaus National Forest
- Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest
- Bureau of Land Management
Salt Springs Development
Salt Springs Development includes seven dams and reservoirs, one diversion structure, and the Salt Springs Powerhouse. The features of this development include:
- Upper Blue Lake
- Lower Blue Lake
- Twin Lake
- Meadow Lake
- Upper Bear River Reservoir
- Lower Bear River Reservoir, pictured below
- Salt Springs Reservoir
- Cole Creek Diversion
- Salt Springs Powerhouse
Tiger Creek Development
Tiger Creek Development consists of two dams and reservoirs and one powerhouse. The features of this development include:

West Point Development
West Point Development includes one dam and reservoir and a powerhouse. The features of this development include:

Electra Development
The Electra Development includes two dams, one reservoir and a powerhouse. The features of this development include:

FERC relicensing
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued the project's current 30-year license on October 11, 2001. The license expires on September 30, 2031.
PG&E will begin relicensing the project in 2026. The goal is to obtain a new license using FERC's Integrated Licensing Process (ILP). PG&E anticipates filing the pre-application document in September 2026. The final license application will be filed in September 2029. The ILP includes several interim deliverables and requirements.
