Learn about the Diablo Canyon Decommissioning Engagement Panel

The Diablo Canyon Decommissioning Engagement Panel was created to foster open and transparent dialogue between members of the local community and PG&E on topics regarding the decommissioning of Diablo Canyon Power Plant near Avila Beach, CA.

Mission and purpose

The Diablo Canyon Decommissioning Engagement Panel will review information and provide direct input on behalf of the local community to PG&E on Diablo Canyon Power Plant decommissioning plans and activities.

Background

In 2016, PG&E announced plans for the closure plan for Diablo Canyon at the expiration of its Nuclear Regulatory Commission operating licenses in 2024-2025. PG&E will focus on continued safe and reliable operations at Diablo Canyon, while also preparing decommissioning plans that consider community input and meet regulatory requirements.

Meetings

Public meetings will provide the opportunity to learn about the various aspects of the decommissioning process and for the Panel and the public to provide input to PG&E as plans and a detailed cost estimate are being prepared for the Nuclear Decommissioning Cost Triennial Proceeding (NDCTP) filing with California Public Utilities Commission in 2018-2019. Meetings will occur on the final Wednesday of each month until the NDCTP filing and are subject to change. Access this website for the latest meeting details.
