Solar customers

Check with your solar provider before purchasing a battery to ensure compatibility with permanent battery storage.

important notice Note: Be aware of the important dates and information below.

  • Application must be submitted within 12 months from the date Permission to Operate was received or by December 31, 2025, whichever comes first, and subject to available funding.
  • Rebate is one per household regardless of system size or quantity.
  • Please ensure you have allotted enough time to purchase, install, interconnect the system and submit the application.
  • The application cannot be submitted until the project is interconnected, has received Permission to Operate, and all other program requirements have been met.
  • The purchase date is based on the date listed on the purchasing agreement/contract.

Apply

Step 1: Purchase and install an approved battery through a licensed contractor

If you need help locating an installer, the contractors on our list have installed permanent batteries through PG&E's programs, view our contractor list (XLSX).

Step 2: Receive Permission to Operate (PTO) from PG&E's Electric Generation Interconnection (EGI) Department

After your contractor has installed the battery, they must submit an interconnection application with PG&E's Electric Generation Interconnection department.

Step 3: Enroll in a Time-of Use Rate Plan

Time-of-Use rate plans are based on how much energy you use and when you use it.

See a list of PG&E Time-of-Use rate plans

Step 4: Enroll in the PG&E’s Automated Response Technology Program

PG&E's Automated Response Technology Program is designed to enable customers to contribute to energy load reduction during times of peak demand.

important notice Note: Please ensure you fill out the enrollment form that is listed as PG&E Battery Storage. Enrollment in the SmartFlex Rewards Program by Uplight will not meet this requirement.

Step 5: Submit your Permanent Battery Storage Rebate application

Before submitting your application, be sure you have the purchasing agreement/contract that includes the date of installation, the contractor's license number and the make/model of the battery. A copy will need to be attached to your application.

important notice Note: The invoice is not the purchasing agreement/contract. The purchasing agreement reflects the warranty information along with the detailed breakdown cost of the labor, permanent battery storage system, and any other associated costs.

PG&E's Automated Response Technology Program  promotes a cleaner and more reliable grid for your community. It does so by leveraging smart technologies in your home, such as permanent batteries, smart thermostats, electric vehicle chargers and more.

The rebate is first-come, first-serve. Customers do not have the ability to reserve a rebate before completing the program requirements.

If a customer is currently on NEM 2.0, the Permanent Battery Storage Rebate Program does not require that the customer switch to NEM 3.0 to receive the rebate.

However, please be aware that increasing the capacity of your solar may require you to switch from NEM 2.0 to NEM 3.0. Please check with your permanent battery storage installer beforehand to see if you will be affected.
