Learn about the program

Through the Better Together Summer Jobs program, we partner with local Boys & Girls Club chapters to provide youth, ages 15–18, with career education and job training. Participants who successfully complete the six-week training program can apply and compete for six-week paid summer jobs at local nonprofit organizations and small- or medium-sized businesses. Since 2012, we've provided training and summer jobs for youth in communities all across California.

Get training for a summer job

The Boys & Girls Clubs have long provided youth with career training, but couldn’t connect young trainees to jobs until recently. In 2012, PG&E partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fresno County to pilot the Better Together Summer Jobs program, providing training for more than 200 teens and jobs for 55 of those teens during its first year. Learn more about the pilot program by viewing a video. Visit Better Together Summer Jobs program Fresno.

Today, the program extends beyond Fresno to Bakersfield and Sacramento. Learn more about the current program in these areas by viewing the following videos:

Throughout the six-week employment period, program participants work 25 hours per week to achieve the following goals:

  • Acquire critical skills
  • Interact with customers
  • Learn professional behaviors

In addition to their earnings, participants, many from underserved households, receive the following benefits:

  • Professional work attire
  • The opportunity to open a bank account
  • A stipend for transportation to and from work
  • An invitation to an overnight retreat designed to inspire students to seek higher education
