Permanent Battery Storage Rebate

• The PBSR Program offers a $7,500 rebate to eligible first-time battery storage customers upon the purchase and installation of a qualifying permanent battery storage system to prepare for power outages.

• Use the PBSR Address Lookup Tool on the program page to verify whether you meet pre-qualification requirements:
  • Input your address in the address search bar.
  • Scroll down to the Backup Power Solutions tab to view eligibility.

• Must meet all Terms and Conditions upon application submission.
• Be a residential electric service customer of PG&E.
• First-time Battery Storage PG&E customer.
• Experienced five or more Wildfire Safety outages since January 1, 2024.
• Permanent Battery Storage System must be on the Qualified Product List (XLSX).
• Install the permanent residential battery and receive Permission to Operate from PG&E's Electric Generation Interconnection Department.
• The product must be purchased on or after January 1, 2025.
• Enrolled in a Time-of-Use rate plan.
• Enrolled in PG&E’s Emergency Load Reduction Program (ELRP) through your battery provider.

• After the system has been purchased, installed, and interconnected, and all remaining program requirements have been met may an application be submitted through our online application portal.

 Note: Application must be submitted within 12 months from the date Permission to Operate was received or by December 31, 2026, whichever comes first, and subject to available funding. The purchase date is based on the date listed on the purchase agreement/contract.

You do not need to be on the PBSR Contractor List to participate in the PBSR Program, as long as you have an active California license with the following classifications:

• A
• B
• C-10
• C-38 (for the combined installation of solar photovoltaics and energy storage projects)
• C-46 (for the installation of large-scale thermal energy storage system projects) 
• If you meet the following requirements above and are an SGIP Approved Developer, you may send a request to GeneratorBatteryRebateProgram@pge.com.

Please view the green banner at the top of the program page which reflects the number of rebates remaining. This number is updated on a weekly basis.

PG&E approved Emergency Load Reduction Programs (ELRP) are designed to reduce energy usage during times of high grid stress and emergencies.

Tesla Virtual Power Plant with PG&E

1. Open the Tesla App
   Open the Tesla App on your mobile device.
2. Begin Enrollment
   Navigate to the Energy Site from your Products drop-down list in upper left screen (relevant if you have more than one Tesla product)
3. Access Settings
   If you are eligible for this program you should see the Virtual Power Plant banner. Select that banner.
4. Opt-in to the VPP Program
   Enrollment flow includes Program Info, Enrollment Form, Terms and Conditions
   Choose to opt in to the Virtual Power Plant Program
   Before you continue, make sure you have the following:
   • Matching account information:
     • Enter your name, phone number, and PG&E account number exactly as they appear on your PG&E bill.
   • Permission to Operate (PTO):
     • Your system must have already have Permission to Operate, which PG&E issues after your system is approved for interconnection.
5. Enrollment Complete
   • Once enrolled, you may submit a rebate application-provided all other program requirements have been met.

PG&E's Automated Response Technology Program promotes a cleaner and more reliable grid for your community. It does so by leveraging smart technologies in your home, such as permanent batteries, smart thermostats, electric vehicle chargers and more.

1. Go to the Automated Response Technology Program webpage
2. Pick the right program
   Find and click PG&E – Battery Storage.
3. Start enrollment
   Click the link that says: "For PG&E Battery Storage, click here to enroll."
4. Fill out the enrollment form
   1. Make sure you already have Permission to Operate (PG&E gives this after your system is approved).
   2. You'll also need the serial number(s) from your battery system.
5. Wait for PG&E to process your enrollment form
   After you submit the enrollment form, PG&E's team will review it. This can take up to 4 weeks.
6. Get your welcome email
   Once you're approved, PG&E will send you an email saying you're officially enrolled.
7. Welcome Email Received
   Once the Welcome email is received, you will have met the program's Automated Response Technology enrollment requirement.

The rebate is first-come, first-serve. Customers do not have the ability to reserve a rebate before completing the program requirements.

If a customer is currently on NEM 2.0, the Permanent Battery Storage Rebate Program does not require that the customer switch to NEM 3.0 to receive the rebate.

However, please be aware that increasing the capacity of your solar may require you to switch from NEM 2.0 to NEM 3.0. Please check with your permanent battery storage installer beforehand to see if you will be affected.
