Frequently asked questions
The rebate covers:
- Material
- Labor
- Permit
- PG&E Your Projects application fees
Note: The rebate does not cover cosmetic alterations.
Yes. After installation, contractors must submit an itemized invoice or work order, signed by the customer as proof of completion.
After installation, contractors must submit completion documents to PG&E for verification. If the installation is using the eligible EV charger equipment list, the max incentive is $2,000. If the installation is a panel upgrade from less than 200A to a 200A panel and a L2 charger, the max incentive is $5,000.
Contractors choosing to upgrade the panel from less than 200A to 200A must provide proof that an upgraded panel is necessary for L2 charging. This will occur if:
- The home has electrified multiple appliances (e.g., HVAC, cooktop, water heater, dryer).
- The existing panel won't support an L2 charger safely.
Customers/contractors can apply to multiple programs to cover costs above and beyond the PG&E rebate. However, customers can't recover more than the total cost of the installation.
Any out-of-pocket expense is a decision between the contactor and customer. Any out-of- pocket beyond the capped incentive is borne by the customer. PG&E won't be an intermediary in any way.
There won't be a deposit from PG&E. Incentive is paid after the contractor successfully uploads completion documents and they've been verified.
Yes, PG&E will inspect projects. Inspections won't delay the payment process.
We aim to complete the review of the final completion documents within 5 business days of receipt. We'll process and mail a check to the address on the application within 2 business days.
Yes. This program can apply to multi-family homes.
No.
During the Trade Ally Network application, the contactor will provide all counties in which they serve. Customers who are approved for the program will select a Trade Ally Network contractor by filtering for the county where the installation will occur. Contractors are listed in alphabetical order.
If you assist the customer with the application, you can ensure the customer selects you to perform the work. PG&E does not endorse any contractor.
All projects must be submitted to PG&E's Building and Renovations team to confirm PG&E's assets can serve the new load.
If load calculations support EV load without the need for panel upgrade, use the eligible EVSE solution for the $2,000 capped incentive.
No. The program only supports an upgrade from less than 200A to a 200A panel.
