APD Risk Fades

Thursday, February 06, 2003

Unlike much of the country, the San Francisco Bay Area was treated to the second warmest January on record. February now brings California Gas Transmission crisper days, with temperatures closer to normal and below. But normal for February still lacks the bite of normal January temperatures. The risk of an Abnormal Peak Day (APD) on Pacific Gas and Electric Company's system is fading to zero.

With March on the horizon, California Gas Transmission announces the close of the APD window. What does this mean to you?

  • The probability of an APD prior to next winter is nearly zero. An APD occurs when Pacific Gas and Electric Company's system composite temperature falls to 29 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • The chances that Cold Winter Day (CWD) conditions will strike this winter are greatly reduced. Accordingly, local curtailments or diversions driven by cold weather are far less likely--although still possible.
