Pipeline Balancing Inventory Update

Monday, January 10, 2005

Recent and consistent underdeliveries by suppliers have reduced Imbalance Gas in Storage to less than 0.5 Bcf. An Imbalance Gas in Storage inventory below zero would indicate that the entire inventory reserved for pipeline balancing has been withdrawn. When this inventory is zero or lower, pipeline balancing withdrawals are not available.

Background

Pipeline balancing services are provided by an allocated 2.2 Bcf of storage inventory, 50 MMcf/d of injection capacity, and 70 MMcf/d of withdrawal capacity. The current inventory of Imbalance Gas in Storage can be found on Pipe Ranger's Recent Storage Activity page.

Normally, as minimum safe operating limits are approached, balancing gas is withdrawn to maintain pipeline inventory within safe limits. Without the ability to withdraw for balancing, the likelihood of low inventory OFOs increases.

What can shippers do to help avoid low inventory OFOs?

  • Balance supply and demand daily. Work to ensure that supplies brought in for your customers meet their daily demands.
  • Keep an eye on the Pipe Ranger System Inventory Status
