PG&E'S Chief Nuclear Officer elected to Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited's board of directors

Ed Halpin joins nuclear industry’s mutual insurer

AVILA BEACH, Calif. – Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) today announced that Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer Ed Halpin has been elected to the board of directors of Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited (NEIL).

 

Located in Wilmington, Delaware, NEIL insures all the nuclear generating sites in the U.S. and has assets of $4.3 billon. It provides coverage from accidents for property damage, decontamination expenses, physical losses, certain premature decommissioning costs, and the costs associated with certain long-term interruptions of electricity supply.

 

"Ed Halpin is a highly-respected nuclear industry veteran," said Marv Fertel, president and CEO of the Nuclear Energy Institute. "His deep experience in managing nuclear facilities and leading dedicated workforces will greatly assist NEIL in its mission to support the financial health and stability of the nuclear industry."

 

As PG&E's Chief Nuclear Officer, Halpin is responsible for the continued safe, efficient, and reliable operations of Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant and the decommissioning of Humboldt Bay Power Plant. He also serves as the utility's lead contact with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Prior to joining PG&E, Halpin served as the President, CEO, and Chief Nuclear Officer at STP Nuclear Operating Company in Bay City, Texas, and as an officer in the U.S Navy's nuclear submarine service.

 

 

Halpin holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and Master of Science degrees from Seton Hall University and Fielding Graduate University. He is also a graduate of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations Senior Nuclear Plant Manager course.
