San Luis Obispo, Calif.— Local Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) employees, including those that work at Diablo Canyon Power Plant, will donate more than $730,000 to local nonprofits and schools in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties in 2016. Statewide, PG&E employees will donate more than $7.9 million.
"PG&E employees at Diablo Canyon, and throughout San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties, continue to lead the way in supporting worthy local causes, schools and community-support groups. These funds empower these organizations to make profound and positive impacts in the region, helping our local communities thrive," said Ed Halpin, PG&E's Senior Vice President of Generation and Chief Nuclear Officer.
Through PG&E's Campaign for the Community program, employees can designate donation recipients and contribute amounts of their choosing through payroll deductions or one-time donations. PG&E then provides matching funding.
Since 2000, the program has raised nearly $70 million. These contributions are in addition to the millions of dollars that PG&E donates annually throughout its service area, including in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties.
In addition to local schools, employee contributions this year will support environmental causes, community centers, food banks, animal shelters, veterans groups and many other worthy organizations.
