Diablo Canyon unit 2 idled for planned maintenance

AVILA BEACH, Calif.— Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) safely took Diablo Canyon Power Plant Unit 2 offline today to perform scheduled maintenance on electrical equipment located on the non-nuclear side of the plant.
During the planned outage plant personnel will perform a cleaning of the unit's lightning arrestors. The equipment is located outside of the main facility and supports moving power to the state's electric grid. The work can only be performed safely when electricity is not being generated.
Similar work was recently completed on the Unit 1 lightning arrestors. The unit is currently operating at full power.
