On March 10-12, 2014, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and Arizona Public Service (APS) will conduct a workshop with independent experts to develop a Southwestern U.S. Ground Motion Characterization (SWUS GMC) model. The model will be used to update the predicted levels of ground motions at Diablo Canyon Power Plant and Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station from earthquakes of varying magnitudes located at a range of distances from the sites.

This is the last of three workshops that PG&E and APS are co-sponsoring in support of a Senior Seismic Hazard Analysis Committee study to update, in accordance with a directive from Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the seismic hazard characterization models for both plant sites. This technical meeting involves seismic experts' evaluations of recorded ground motion data, ground motion prediction equations and ground motion simulations for integration of those data into the SWUS GMC model.
