Helping Families Save Energy and Money with Solar
To make energy more affordable for families who need it most and generate more clean energy, PG&E installs solar panels for new Habitat for Humanity-built homes in our service area.
Since 2005, PG&E has partnered with Habitat for Humanity® International to fund the full cost of solar panels for new Habitat-built homes in our service territory throughout Northern and Central California.
This first-of-its-kind partnership brings solar energy to families with limited incomes, furthering PG&E's commitment to provide affordable, renewable energy in the communities we serve. In addition to solar panels, PG&E also provides resources to Habitat affiliates to help them build greener and more sustainable housing.
Cutting Energy Bills and Carbon Emissions
The solar panels installed on Habitat homes generate nearly 300 kiloWatt-hours of clean, renewable energy each month, saving each family approximately $500 a year. This reduction in cost supports Habitat's mission of enabling home ownership for underserved families.
Each panel also eliminates more than 132,000 pounds of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere over the 30-year life of the system.

"When I go in (to volunteer), I get to hear the person's story about how they are trying to get back on their feet. It opens your eyes ... I like giving back to these organizations that help out. It’s a great feeling."
