Campgrounds, Fishing Access and Picnic Areas

From the Pit River country in the Cascade Range to the King's River region in the southern Sierra Nevada, our recreational facilities are ready for you to use and enjoy.

Large lakes such as Almanor, Spaulding and Britton, man-made for hydroelectric power, are the settings for many of our campgrounds and picnic areas. Most of the lakes offer fishing, swimming and boating. This guide lists the many activities available at each recreational area.

Recreational Areas

Campgrounds

Pacific Gas and Electric Company's campgrounds provide tent space, tables and benches, fire grills, refuse containers, water, restrooms and parking. Most require a camping fee and have an occupancy time limit of 14 days. Most are available on a first-come, first-served basis, however, the group facilities require reservations. Most campgrounds have parking spaces that can accommodate trailers up to 20 or 34 feet long.

Picnic Areas

Picnic areas have tables, benches and restrooms. Many areas have running water and refuse containers.

The Season

The elevation of these facilities ranges from sea level to 8,200 feet. The facilities at higher elevations have a shorter season. Lower-elevation facilities generally open around May 1 and higher elevations around June 15. Some low elevation day use areas are open year around.

Public Use Policy

We encourage public use of company-owned lakes when compatible with production of hydroelectric power.

Your safety and government regulations require that some hydroelectric facilities and areas be closed to public use.
