High BTU Gas Starting May 23. 2013

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Pacific Gas and Electric Company's California Gas Transmission expects to receive higher-than-normal heating value gas into its system starting on Thursday, May 23, 2013. This is due to scheduled maintenance at a facility in Canada which is scheduled to last approximately 17 to 18 days. The speed at which the high BTU gas will migrate through the system is dependent upon the system demand pattern experienced by the local transmission and distribution systems. The BTU value of the delivered gas is expected to be between 1060 and 1075 BTU, which is above normal levels of approximately 1020 BTU/cf.

The BTU content throughout PG&E's system is expected to remain within existing parameters for safe and reliable equipment operation. However, some customer processes may be sensitive to natural gas heat content, especially electric generation facilities, refineries, glass manufacturers and commercial customers using natural gas for cooking and drying. Customers testing their emissions may notice the increased BTU content.
