Quiet Period at McDonald Island Planned for Mid-November

Thursday, August 21, 2008

Pacific Gas and Electric Company's California Gas Transmission (CGT) will conduct a "quiet period" at McDonald Island storage field in mid-November. Each year CGT ceases injection and withdrawal activity at one of its storage fields allowing pressure in various gas wells to settle and stabilize. This allows CGT engineers to accurately determine the volume of gas inventory held at that facility. To minimize impacts to its customers, CGT schedules this operation when demand for storage services is low.

CGT anticipates the quiet period will start November 10, 2008 and last eleven days; however, this schedule is subject to change. CGT will provide additional notification on the Pipe Ranger Web site prior to the start of the quiet period. During the event, McDonald Island injection and withdrawal will be unavailable. Pleasant Creek and Los Medanos storage field injections will be limited to approximately 63 MMcf/day.

Balancing services will have first priority to this injection capacity, although balancing injections are not available when Imbalance Gas in Storage is above 4.04 Bcf. Any injection capacity not utilized for balancing services will be available for Golden Gate Market Center services.

CGT expects its withdrawal and injection capacity will be sufficient to fully meet the demand for firm storage services, although some as-available services will not be available. Please contact your CGT Account Services Representative if you have any questions about your storage account during November.
