Pacific Gas and Electric Company's California Gas Transmission received 29 hours of higher-than-normal heating value gas into its system at Malin, Oregon, early on the morning of December 13. The heat content reached 1035 BTU/CF which is somewhat higher than the normal 1020 BTU/CF. The BTU content throughout PG&E's system will remain within existing parameters for safe and reliable equipment operation. However, some customer processes may be sensitive to natural gas heat content, especially electric generation facilities, refineries, glass manufacturers and commercial customers using natural gas for cooking and drying. Customers testing their emissions may notice the increased BTU content.

The speed at which the high BTU gas will migrate throughout the system is dependent on the system demand pattern being experienced by the local transmission and distribution system for each area. The BTU content of the delivered gas will range from 1030 - 1035 BTU/CF.

Based on system conditions, the higher-than-normal BTU gas volumes are expected to arrive at Redding, Red Bluff, Eureka, Willows, and Sacramento areas today. Areas that will be affected tomorrow, 12/14 are Vacaville/Cordelia, Vallejo, Santa Rosa, Antioch/Concord/East Bay and the Stockton area. Customers south of these regions should not be affected.

CGT will provide additional information on the Pipe Ranger Web site as conditions warrant, including the date heating values throughout the PG&E system will return to normal.
