Start Date when Changing a Timely Nomination

As many Schedulers know, mastery of one technique often leads to the next quest for knowledge. Having conquered the lessons of Changing a Nomination Order for More than One Day, Pipe Kwon Do adepts now seek to peel back the next layer, meticulously exposing further detail of the scheduling arts.

Today's Pipe Kwon Do session focuses on one very useful detail of scheduling with INSIDEtracc: the start date of a nomination. The start date carries special importance when changing a nomination before the first cycle deadline for a gas day. For those skeptics who feel such details may not be worthy of study, Pipe Kwon Do offers this test:

QUESTION: After making the following nominations, what volume would be processed for gas day August 6, 2005?

# Start Date End Date ModeVolumeCreate Date Create Time
1 8/2/2005 8/31/2005 Timely 200,000 8/1/2005 9:15 a.m.
2 8/3/2005 8/31/2005 Timely 150,000 8/2/2005 8:47 a.m.
3 8/3/2005 8/31/2005 Timely 175,000 8/2/2005 8:58 a.m.
4 8/4/2005 8/6/2005 Timely 100,000 8/3/2005 9:11 a.m.
5 8/6/2005 8/6/2005 Timely 25,000 8/3/2005 3:40 p.m.
6 8/5/2005 8/6/2005 Timely 130,000 8/4/2005 8:33 a.m.

ANSWER: The Timely nomination for gas day August 6 would be 25,000 Dth.

Even the most adept schedulers may be caught off guard by this answer. To understand the correct answer, one must remember one simple mantra:

INSIDEtracc processes the nomination with the latest start date last, regardless of which was entered last.

In the table above, although the nomination created last was for 130,000 Dth, the nomination for 25,000 Dth had a later start date. Therefore, INSIDEtracc processed nom #5 last, overwriting nom #6 and making #5 the effective nomination for gas day August 6.

In the example above, an effective nomination for 130,000 for August 6 could have been achieved by replacing nom #6 with the following two nominations:

# Start Date End Date ModeVolumeCreate Date Create Time
6 8/5/2005 8/5/2005 Timely 130,000 8/4/2005 8:33 a.m.
7 8/6/2005 8/6/2005 Timely 130,000 8/4/2005 8:35 a.m.

All the nominations in this example were made in the Normal View screen because they were made for the Timely cycle-prior to the Timely deadline-for the gas day in question. After the Timely deadline, one must work in the Flow Date Status screen to execute the Descheduling maneuver previously studied.

As any disciple at this level of mastery knows, two basic Pipe Kwon Do strategies always help ensure accurate, effective nominations:

  • Regularly review your nominations in the View Nomination History screen.
  • Review your 100 Report following each confirm and schedule process.

A practiced hand, a watchful eye and a studied mind will not falter when changing a nomination before the first cycle deadline. If any doubt remains, Master Lapera's team is available to provide individual guidance.
