California Solar Initiative-Thermal Program (Solar Water Heating)

PG&E is now offering incentives to customers who are investing in solar water heating systems. The California Solar Initiative Thermal (CSI-Thermal) program provides incentives to residential and non-residential customers who install eligible solar water heating systems for their home or business.

The CSI-Thermal program is administered by PG&E, Southern California Edison (SCE), Southern California Gas (SoCal Gas) and the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE) in San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) service territory.

Program administrators began accepting single-family residential applications in May 2010, and multi-family and commercial applications in October, 2010. The program will run for eight years, ending on December 31, 2017 or until the incentive budget allocations are exhausted, which ever comes first.

Customer Eligibility

To qualify for the CSI-Thermal program, customers must heat their water with gas or electricity provided by PG&E, SDG&E, SCE or SoCal Gas. As of January 2012, propane water heating customers are eligible for a CSI-Thermal incentive if they are electric customers of PG&E, SCE, or SDG&E. Complete program guidelines can be found in the CSI-Thermal Program Handbook. Learn more about program eligibility.

CSI-Thermal incentive amounts differ and are based on customers' system type, class (e.g., residential or commercial) and water heating fuel source (e.g., gas or electric). Incentives are highest in the early part of the program, and decrease as more applications are received. Learn more about the incentive structure.
