Learn about the Diablo Canyon Decommissioning Engagement Panel

The Diablo Canyon Decommissioning Engagement Panel is being created to foster open dialogue between members of the local community and PG&E on topics regarding the decommissioning of Diablo Canyon Power Plant near Avila Beach, CA. The application period to apply for panel membership has now closed, and more than 100 applications were received. This website will be updated with the most current information on future panel meetings.

Mission and purpose

The Diablo Canyon Decommissioning Engagement Panel will review information and provide direct input on behalf of the local community to PG&E on Diablo Canyon Power Plant decommissioning plans and activities.


In 2016, PG&E announced plans for the closure plan for Diablo Canyon at the expiration of its Nuclear Regulatory Commission operating licenses in 2024-2025. PG&E will focus on continued safe and reliable operations at Diablo Canyon, while also preparing decommissioning plans that consider community input and meet regulatory requirements.

Decommissioning Engagement Panel meetings

Public meetings occur approximately once every quarter and are moderated by a local facilitator. Questions and concerns for panel consideration may be submitted in advance of those meetings.

Scheduled Meetings

The first meeting will be scheduled after the panel member selection process has concluded.

Panel members

A panel formation committee comprised of representatives from the local community and PG&E will select panel members who broadly reflect the diverse stakeholder viewpoints in proximity to DCPP.
