Choose the ideal renewable energy technology for your home

You can promote a healthy environment and a bright future by producing clean energy for your home. PG&E can help you find the right technology to meet your home’s energy needs and take advantage of California’s abundant sun, wind and other natural resources for power.

Solar

BEST FOR:WHAT TO CONSIDER:
SOLAR PANELSSOLAR PANELS

Solar panels work well on homes with plenty of rooftop space exposed to the sun with minimal shading for at least six hours a day, ideally from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Solar panels can last more than 25 years. Make sure your roof is no more than seven years old to avoid reinstalling panels a second time.

OTHER RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS

BEST FOR:WHAT TO CONSIDER:
SOLAR WATER HEATINGSolar Water Heating

Solar water heating is ideal for homes consuming large amounts of hot water, with plenty of roof space exposed to the sun.

You may need space for a solar storage tank near your existing water heater.

WIND TURBINEWind Turbine

Wind turbines are best suited for windy areas of California that are able to accommodate a wind turbine.

Wind turbines typically require a space of at least 30 feet in height above the ground. Consult manufacturer details for required average wind speed for optimal performance.

FUEL CELLSFuel Cells

Fuel cells powered by natural gas, though not strictly renewable, reduce your energy bill while generating cleaner heat and power.

Fuel cells require space the size of a medium-to-large appliance.

ADVANCED ENERGY STORAGE (AES)Advanced Energy Storage (AES)

AES systems are often combined with renewable systems and can supplement intermittent energy when needed.

AES systems require space the size of a large appliance.
