Advanced Home Upgrade in the Bay Area is available to homeowners who choose the Ultimate Comfort option in addition to the required 4 measures. Other home upgrades are available through the BayREN, this includes Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma counties. Find an Advanced Home Upgrade professional

To get started in Advanced Home Upgrade, you must work with a contractor participating in the program.  Participating contractors and independent building analysts in our database are certified and have been trained to look holistically at your home and identify improvements that will save you the most energy and money.


  • Contractors who participate in Advanced Home Upgrade offer homeowners a comprehensive approach to home improvement that provides better energy efficiency, greater comfort, and lower utility bill.
  • Participating contractors have training in the core concepts of building science methodology, which is knowledge of the physical behavior of buildings and their impact on energy efficiency, comfort, health, safety, and durability.
  • Participating contractors evaluate homes using state-of-the-art equipment and recommend comprehensive improvements that will yield the best results.
  • Participating contractors will follow all local permitting rules. Permits are to ensure homes are safe from fire hazards, structural issues and health risks.  Plus, permits provide a permanent record of the work performed on your home, as well as the inspections conducted and passed.
  • Participating contractors will test all combustion appliances (fuel burning appliances such as stoves, water heaters, furnaces) for gas leaks or other dangerous conditions.
  • Participating contractors will also install at least one CO alarm meeting UL-2034 or CO detector meeting UL-2075.

Put money in your pocket

Receive your rebate check 6-8 weeks after we receive your completed paperwork from your contractor. In addition to the rebate, you should start saving on your energy bill each month.2

If you don't have the money to upgrade your home now, financing may be available.3
