Access frequently asked questions for tenants of sub-metered residential facilities

Determine if you quality for the Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) program, and learn how to apply.

How long does the discount last?

You receive the discount for two years before you must reapply. We will contact you for recertification.

Must I show proof of income when I apply?

Proof of income is not required during the application process. However, you may be randomly selected to verify income at a later date.

How do I know when you apply the discount to my bill?

We send tenants and landlords a letter welcoming them to the FERA program. The landlord is responsible for passing on the FERA savings. The savings should appear on the energy bill that tenants receive from the landlord.

My family was previously denied FERA benefits. How soon can we reapply?

We encourage families to reapply whenever an income situation changes. Income guidelines change in June of each year.

My landlord has questions about the FERA program. Where can he or she get more information?

Call the FERA Program Hotline at 415-972-5732.
