Applying for your project

Get ready.

Apply online.

Submit your application for service anytime, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Visit "Your Projects."

Speak with your PG&E representative.

Your PG&E representative will contact you within three business days to discuss project details.

Design your project.

An applicant designer can design your project or we can. Learn more about the responsibilities of the applicant designer. Visit Applicant Design and Installation Responsibilities. After the design is prepared, PG&E mails the project proposal for your approval.

Building your project

Arrange for trenching.

If you’re installing or upgrading underground lines, your PG&E representative can provide drawings for trenches or other structures.

Schedule our services.

Schedule gas and/or electric construction crew work with your PG&E representative.

3OF 5

Prepare for trench inspection.

Ensure that you call 811 before any trenching. If you hired your own contractor for trenching, get familiar with our requirement. Download Electric & Gas Service Requirements (PDF, 5.3 MB). Then, arrange for inspection with your PG&E representative.

Complete electrical or gas work.

Work with your contractor to install your electrical panel or stub out the gas houseline. Refer to our requirements page. Visit Electric and Gas Service Requirements.

Be on-site for the installation.

You or your contractor must be on-site when we install gas and pulls electric wires into conduit.

Connecting your project

Complete municipal inspections.

Arrange for the appropriate local government agency to inspect your electric panel and/or gas houseline. Use our online permit office locator tool. Visit Permit Office Locator.

Confirm the meter installation date.

Find out from your PG&E representative when we will install your meter. Understand the stages of SmartMeter™ technology. Visit Getting Your SmartMeter™ Device. 


When your inspections are complete and after we install your meter, we can turn on your electric and/or gas service.

For a disconnect that requires immediate attention due to a hazardous situation or if electrical repairs are needed please call 1-877-743-7782. Please be advised that an application may be required before services can be reconnected.


PLEASE NOTE: After you apply for gas or electric service, we assign a representative to you. Your representative helps you through each step of the process including:


  • Arranging a site assessment.
  • Providing you with a project estimate and agreement.
  • Helping you schedule construction work and inspections.
