Program success

PG&E is committed to a diverse supply chain. We work with many small businesses and enterprises owned by women, minority, service-disabled veteran, and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) individuals. In fact, more than 40 percent of our annual procurement spend is with certified diverse-owned businesses.

PG&E has had a formal supplier diversity program in place since 1981. We're extremely proud of our success in this area and look forward to sustaining our commitments to supplier diversity, innovation and excellence for many years to come. Our program's success is a collaborative effort. We engage employees across our company to drive supplier diversity goal achievement. We encourage suppliers throughout our supply chain to commit to inclusivity. We partner with external community-based organizations across our territory to champion supplier diversity excellence.

California's regulated utilities are required to have a supplier diversity program and report program results to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) annually, in compliance with General Order 156. In support of these efforts, we offer a variety of initiatives to support current and prospective suppliers, including technical assistance and development through our Technical Assistance Program.

Current suppliers

Current suppliers are companies that have a contract or purchase agreement to provide goods or services directly to PG&E. Prime suppliers are current suppliers who hire other companies as subcontractors to help execute the work. PG&E offers support to prime suppliers so they may develop a strong supplier diversity program of their own.

If you’re a small or diverse business enterprise and want to work with PG&E, join us at one of the many outreach events we attend throughout the year. Determine if your capabilities and qualifications match up with our needs. After that, you may want to certify as a diverse business or register as a small business. Lastly, register and create a PG&E supplier profile and find out about current bid opportunities.

Certify as a diverse business

The CPUC Supplier Clearinghouse, part of General Order 156, certifies businesses owned by women, minorities and LGBT individuals. Learn more about General Order 156.

You can apply online at the CPUC Supplier Clearinghouse.

Service-disabled veteran-owned business enterprises (DVBE) must obtain certification from the California Department of General Services (CA DGS).

You can also certify with other agencies that PG&E recognizes, also listed below.

Register as a small business

Small businesses can register through California Department of General Services or Small Business Administration (SBA).

Create a supplier profile

Create your supplier profile with PG&E. Then visit the current bid opportunities page to see if there are any opportunities that might be a good fit.

Current and prospective suppliers working together

PG&E encourages its prime suppliers to identify cost-effective opportunities to work with diverse suppliers as subcontractors, value-added resellers or business solution partners. Attending networking events can facilitate introductions. PG&E also conducts targeted business matchmaking events between its prime suppliers and the diverse business community.
