For close to 5 years, PG&E has been providing clean and efficient solar panels to every new Habitat for Humanity-built home in our service territory - at no cost. This first-of-its-kind partnership brings solar energy to families in underserved communities, extends the resources of our non-profit partners and contributes to a healthier environment for us all.

Program Overview

PG&E's Solar Habitat Program is a partnership between PG&E and Habitat for Humanity_® International to fund the full cost of solar electric systems on every Habitat-built home in Northern and Central California. This premier partnership brings solar energy to families with limited incomes, furthering PG&E's commitment to provide affordable, renewable energy in the communities it serves.

Generating Impact

The solar panels installed on Habitat-homes generate nearly 300 kiloWatt-hours of clean, renewable energy from sunlight each month, saving the families approximately $500 a year on energy costs. This reduction in cost assists Habitat‘s efforts to keep homeowner payments affordable, and the families in safe and stable home.

Each panel will also help avoid the release of more than 132,000 pounds of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere over the 30-year life of the system. This is equivalent to the amount of greenhouse gas emissions avoided by recycling 20.9 tons of waste instead of sending it to the landfill.

In addition to solar panels, PG&E provides resources to Habitat affiliates to help them build greener and more sustainable housing, which consumes less materials to build and maintain.

PG&E Volunteers Build Homes and Hope

PG&E's support for this program extends well beyond solar panels. Our employees have personally donated thousands of volunteer hours at Habitat build sites across Northern and Central California. As men and women who live and work across the state, we take pride in helping improve the lives of others in our community.

PG&E has a long history of making charitable grants tailored to the wide variety of needs of the communities it serves. The company's broader program of support to communities includes cash grants, in-kind contributions, volunteers for community-based nonprofit organizations and for schools and other governmental programs throughout our service area. All charitable contributions are entirely funded by PG&E Corporation shareholders and the level of charitable giving does not affect gas and electric rates.
