High BTU Gas Expected August 6th
Wednesday, August 05, 2009
Pacific Gas and Electric Company's California Gas Transmission expects to receive higher-than-normal heating value gas into its system starting at Malin, Oregon, at approximately 3:30 a.m. Pacific time on Thursday, August 6, 2009. The speed at which the high BTU gas will migrate throughout the system is dependent on the system demand patterns experienced by the local transmission and distribution systems, but the event is expected to last approximately seven hours. The BTU value will peak at approximately 1070 BTU/cf, which is above normal levels of 1020 BTU/cf.
The BTU content throughout PG&E's system will remain within existing parameters for safe and reliable equipment operation. However, some customer processes may be sensitive to natural gas heat content, expecially electric generation facilities, refineries, glass manufacturers and commercial customers using natural gas for cooking and drying. Customers testing their emissions may notice the increasecd BTU content.
