Current Weather Update
Friday, December 8, 2000
Current weather forecasts are significantly warmer than previously expected for next week, and as long as suppliers continue to deliver gas supply that matches customer demand, Pacific Gas and Electric Company's California Gas Transmission (CGT) does not anticipate any supply curtailment, diversions or local capacity curtailments based on next week's weather conditions.
The following message was sent to some noncore gas customers yesterday:
The National Weather Service and Pacific Gas and Electric Company's Weather Department are forecasting cold weather throughout the Service Area beginning next week. However, today's forecast (December 7, 2000) is for temperatures significantly warmer than yesterday's projections. The current forecast is projecting conditions approaching "Cold Winter Day" (CWD) for some areas later next week. There is the usual uncertainty in forecasts this far in advance.
IF temperatures were to turn out to be colder than CWD, there is the potential in some areas for "local capacity curtailments" at Stage 1. If temperatures were to be significantly colder than are now forecasted, a "local capacity curtailment" at Stage 2 would be possible. In the event that "local capacity curtailments" are required, Pacific Gas and Electric Company will contact impacted end-use customers directly. Pacific Gas and Electric Company is not forecasting local capacity curtailments at this time.
A detailed explanation of "Local Curtailments," and other facts regarding noncore gas use restrictions, can be found on our Web page at: http://www.pge.com/pipeline/library/doing_business/r4winter.pdf
CGT will be updating our Pipe Ranger Web site as new developments occur. In the meantime, remember that:
- The temperature forecast is significantly warmer than prior forecasts
- Supply curtailment, diversions or local capacity curtailments are not expected to occur
