Outage alerts

Receive outage updates by text, email or phone

As an account holder, you’ll automatically receive alerts about potential outages that may affect your service address. 

 

Make sure we have your current phone number

If we have your current phone number on file:

  • We'll attempt to let you know when your power is out through a call or text.
  • You can reply to outage text messages we send to you with "Status" to get the latest outage information for your address. (Available only in English.)
  • You can text "Status" to 95243 at any time to get the outage status for your address. (Available only in English.)

Update your contact preferences.

Set preferences for outage alerts

To set preferences for current or future outages: 

  • Sign into your account.
  • Take the actions below.
  • Once set, you will receive automatic alerts unless you opt out.

Select the button labeled Edit profile and alerts located at the top right corner. 1) Sign in. 2) Select the Edit Profile and Alerts button. 3) Scroll down to Alert Settings.

Select the alert type that you prefer. Select from three types of alerts: email, text or voice.

Set text or voice settings. 1) Select Text or Voice. 2) Add your number using the dropdown in the box. 3) Select the preferred time you would like to receive the alerts.

Set email alert settings. 1) Select Email. 2) Add your email address with the dropdown in the box. 3) Now emails can be sent at any time. There is no need to select your preferred time.

Add another contact. Do you want to add multiple contact preferences? Select "Add another contact to receive alerts".

Save changes. When you're finished, make sure to select "Save Changes".

Receive updates for any location in the PG&E service territory

 

  • An online account is not required.
  • The alerts stop when power is restored to all addresses included in the outage.
  • Do you want to receive updates for future outages? Visit the map to sign up again. This is required even if you want updates for the same address.

Search for an address

 

Step 1: Go to PG&E Outage Center to search for an address.

Step 2: If an outage is affecting the address, you will see the option to "Get outage updates." Click this link.

Step 3: Enter the phone or email where you would like to get alerts.

Step 4: Submit your contact information.

Search for an address and request alerts.

 

Use outage icons on the map

 

Step 1: Go to PG&E Outage Center select "View outage map”.

Step 2: Click on an outage icon on the map.

Step 3: In the pop-up, click the "Get outage updates" link.

Step 4: Enter your phone or email.

Step 5: Submit your contact information.

 

Click on the outage icon and sign up for alerts.

Stay informed during a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS)

When a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) is announced, we refresh our website regularly to keep you informed. You’ll find estimated power shutoff and restoration times and affected areas.

For the latest information about a Public Safety Power Shutoff in your area, visit PSPS updates.

  • Extreme fire danger conditions can threaten a portion of the electric system serving your community.
  • If this occurs, PG&E may need to turn off your electricity in the interest of public safety.
  • This is called a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS).

PG&E account holders do not need to sign up for Public Safety Power Shutoff alerts

  • If we expect your address to be impacted by a shutoff:
  • You will receive automated call, text and email alerts.
  • PG&E can send these alerts at any time, day or night.
  • When possible, the alerts will start two days before the shutoff.
  • They will continue to be sent every day until power is restored. 

Update your contact information or call 1-866-743-6589 during normal business hours.
