ClimateSmart™ Tax-Deductible Contribution
Thank you for participating in the ClimateSmart Program. You may be entitled to a charitable contribution deduction for the amount you paid PG&E during the course of the calendar year. More information about your voluntary contribution is included in the ClimateSmart program 2011 tax letters that PG&E mailed on January 30, 2012.
If you paid all your PG&E bills in full, and in the year in which they were billed, then your annual contribution is equivalent to the amount you were billed. This figure is provided to you on the annual statement sent to you by the ClimateSmart Charity in February. In addition, your monthly energy statements also show the ClimateSmart amount billed. These statements are available to you online at any time, at pge.com, under My Energy.
If you did not pay your PG&E bills in full, or if you paid them in a different year than the date of the bill, your deduction may be correspondingly smaller or larger. For example, if you enrolled in the ClimateSmart program during 2010 and your December bill showed a ClimateSmart amount of $5, but you did not pay your PG&E bill until January 2011, then your possible charitable deduction would be $5 less than stated in the letter from the ClimateSmart Charity. Additionally, if you were a ClimateSmart program customer for all of 2010, you may have made a contribution to the ClimateSmart program in 2010 for a bill presented to you in 2009. In that case, your possible charitable deduction would be larger than the amount set forth in the ClimateSmart Charity letter by the amount of your payment in 2010.
Please refer to your payment records and consult your tax advisor for details. If you do not have your payment records and need further assistance, please email us at climatesmart@pge.com.
