There are many advantages to being "climate neutral" through ClimateSmart™

  1. You can take personal action to address climate change. The ClimateSmart program gives you an easy way to do something more about one of the most urgent environmental issues of our time. Read what people are saying.

  2. Together we can make a positive difference. After three years, PG&E expects the ClimateSmart program to invest in 1.5 million tons of greenhouse gas emission reductions. That’s equal to taking 270,000 cars off the road for a year. The more customers that sign up, the more reductions we’ll achieve together.

  3. Your voluntary contribution to the ClimateSmart™ program may be taken as a charitable deduction on your taxes. PG&E formed the ClimateSmart Charity in order to pursue tax deductibility for contributions to the ClimateSmart program. In late 2007, the Internal Revenue Service determined that the charity qualified for tax exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and that contributions to it are tax deductible. Please consult your tax advisor for more details.
  4. PG&E’s ClimateSmart program is a "best-in-class" program. All greenhouse gas emission reductions for the program will be independently verified, audited and registered with the California Climate Action Registry, a governmentally created nonprofit. The program also benefits from an External Advisory Group and will regularly report to the California Public Utilities Commission, as well as to customers participating in the ClimateSmart program.

The ClimateSmart program is being funded by PG&E customers in accordance with a decision of the California Public Utilities Commission. To make participating customers climate neutral, PG&E may enter into greenhouse gas emission reduction contracts where the reductions occur over time into the future.
