Electric Drive Vehicles
Electric drive vehicles (EDVs and hybrids) are transportation alternatives that address our concerns about the environment and our increasing dependence on petroleum based fuels. Using these types of vehicles in our daily activities can reduce the amount of gasoline we burn and help to significantly reduce tailpipe emissions.
Some examples of electric drive technologies are battery electric vehicles (BEV), hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) and fuel cell powered vehicles (FCV).
To support the introduction of EDVs, PG&E is playing a critical role in evaluating and developing new electric drive technologies. Through research education programs, and demonstration projects, PG&E's support for EDVs will provide benefits to all citizens of California, by ensuring a healthier environment and reduced dependence on foreign oil.
