Electric Outage Notification FAQ
- Who do I call to report a power outage in my area?Please call customer service at 1-800-743-5000.
- Where can I obtain contact information?You may call the EON hotline at 1-800-500-0165.
- How do I volunteer for the program?The utility solicits business and residential customers that are closest to reclosing devices for non-Supervisory Control and Data Analysis (SCADA) circuits. EON devices are strategically located so that they can identify a large area affected by an outage. Interested customers must qualify for the EON program by application (PDF, 12 KB).
- May I throw away my device if I no longer want to participate?Under no circumstances should you throw away the device. These devices are valuable and can be reused. Please contact our office so we can arrange to have a postage-paid jiffy bag mailed to your premises. Upon arrangement, a service technician can pick up the device.
- What are the requirements for device operation?Participants must keep the device continuously plugged in to provide accurate information to the company and may not use a switched outlet. If a device needs to be removed for any reason, please call the EON hotline at 1-800-500-0165. Please contact the hotline before making electrical repairs or upgrades.
- How can I identify an EON technician?Pacific Gas and Electric Company partners with DMC/Honeywell to maintain the EON program. Though service technicians do not wear uniforms, they do carry company identification badges. Customers may request to see this badge before allowing a technician into their home or business.
- How should I prepare for a service technician's visit?If you're unable to keep your appointment please notify us at 1-800-500-0165 and we will reschedule your service appointment. If you own a dog please lock your dog up so that our technicians can perform their jobs safely.
- What if I move or change my phone number?You must notify the EON office at 1-800-500-0165 if you change your phone number. Please contact our office and provide forwarding address information if you move and please do not leave the device for future occupants.
- What if I have electrical or telephone problems?Please call the EON hotline at 1-800-500-0165.
- What if I have a DSL line?You will need to use a DSL filter in the phone line configuration.
- What if I have a 9-digit phone system?Please call the EON hotline at 1-800-500-0165.
- How long will this program last?The EON program began in 1994 and should remain in effect until 2010.
