In This Issue                              Issue 1, Volume 1

  Introduction

Welcome to our first issue of “The PG&E Wire” created by Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s Telecom Business Development team. We have developed this newsletter as a means to increase the level of communication between PG&E and our wireless customers.

This issue will focus on the history of our department, our operations results, a brief update on the services we provide to our customers, and an update on our efforts to increase awareness of wireless antenna siting with local jurisdictions.

If you wish to continue receiving The PG&E Wire in the future, please reply to this e-mail and you will be automatically added to our e-mail distribution list. Information on how to unsubscribe will be included at the end of every newsletter.

We hope that you find this newsletter a worthwhile addition to the information you receive through your regular contact with us.

Sincerely,

Toby Tyler
Director, Telecom Business Development

Telecom Business Development at a Glance

Telecom Business Development is a client-centric sales, operations and construction team that actively manages the PG&E property and existing structures that we license/lease to telecommunications service providers. We provide regional and environmentally-friendly network solutions under a unique process administered by our professional and knowledgeable team that proves to our clients that our primary focus is earning their business. Established in 1996, we are a 40-person department operating under the leadership of Toby Tyler.

Our principal focus is on the telecommunications industry, specifically the wireless business. We actively license space on and around Pacific Gas and Electric Company's transmission towers and poles, land and buildings to wireless carriers for placement of wireless antennas. To date, Telecom Business Development has managed the installation of 578 wireless sites throughout PG&E's service territory. The following graph illustrates the cumulative number of wireless site installations we've installed since 1997.

  Jurisdiction Outreach Program

TELECOM BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT IS TAKING OUR SHOW ON THE ROAD!

Betsy Smith heads up our jurisdictional contact effort and she is “hitting the road” taking our message to those communities that may still not know that we offer the greatest number of existing tower colocation sites in Northern California. The goal is to make permitting cell sites on our towers quicker and easier.

Betsy will be making presentations to City Councils, County Boards of Supervisors, Business Development Agencies and any other governmental group where we may find support for wireless service. Her first presentation was June 28, 2004 before Calaveras County Board of Supervisors where her information was warmly received.

In broadening this jurisdictional information effort, PG&E has reserved a booth at the League of Cities Annual Expo to be held this year in Long Beach, California. We expect more than 2000 California city personnel to come see us “live” September 17th and 18th at the Long Beach Convention Center.

If there are any cities, counties or other governmental groups that you think could benefit from Betsy's presentation, please contact her at eps6@pge.com.
