New Solar Homes Partnership Performance Method

The New Solar Homes Partnership Performance Method is available to builders of single family homes within PG&E's service area. In addition to energy efficiency incentives, builders may qualify for incremental incentives from the New Solar Homes Partnership (NHSP) by installing photovoltaic solar systems to their homes. (Note: This program began March 12, 2007.)

Under this option, two levels of participation are available based on the degree of energy efficiency achieved. Requirements and incentive levels are shown below:

Tier 1 Requirements:

  • All homes in the project must exceed 2005 Title 24 Energy Code requirements by at least 15%
  • All home appliances provided by the builder must be ENERGY STAR® qualified if applicable models are available

Tier 1 Incentives:

  • Coastal Climate Zones 1-7—$400 per unit*
  • Inland Climate Zones 8-16—$500 per unit*

A $2.50 incremental per watt incentive from the California Energy Commission (CEC) is available for qualifying systems if solar is offered by the builders. Incentive levels are subject to decline as projects are reserved. Please check the NSHP page for details and incentive levels.

Tier 2 Requirements:

  • All homes in the project must exceed 2005 Title 24 Energy Code requirements by at least 35 percent
  • All homes must demonstrate a 40 percent reduction in cooling load
  • All home appliances provided by the builder must be ENERGY STAR qualified if applicable models are available
  • All homes in the project must include solar generation as an option

Tier 2 Incentives:

  • $2000 per unit incentive for all Climate Zones.*

A $2.50 incremental per watt incentive from the CEC is available for qualifying systems if solar is offered by the builders. Incentive levels are subject to decline as projects are reserved. Please check the NSHP page for details and incentive levels.

*For builders participating in the ENERGY STAR Performance Method, these are not additional incentives.

Climate Zone information, including a map and list by cities, is available on the California Energy Commission's Web site.
