About Us in High Tech

PG&E is committed to supporting high tech customers with innovative, cutting edge program offerings to manage energy use and costs. Whether you are focused on maintaining an efficient, healthy workplace for your employees, managing the challenges of intense energy consumption in your data centers and clean rooms, or designing new facilities, we have a comprehensive portfolio of technical and financial resources to help you meet your goals.

Who We Are

The High Tech Energy Efficient (HTEE) Team believes that the key to solving energy issues in data centers is for facilities (FAC) and information technology (IT) managers to form alliances, developing an integrated approach to managing computer and air conditioning loads. To that end, we will continue our outreach to the facilities management industry, begin working within the IT world, and attempt to bring these industry groups to the same table to discuss energy issues.

What We Do

The HTEE team designs program offerings based on our industry experience and customer feedback. We meet with customers and industry associations and groups as well as consult directly with FAC managers, IT managers, design engineers, and financial officers to support energy efficiency, demand response, and self generation projects.

What We Are Doing

  • Giving you tips, energy surveys, and technical support to help you identify energy efficiency, demand response, and self generation projects.
  • Providing financial support and incentives to make projects more financially attractive. Some special services are provided at no cost to customers who are willing to commit to support the completion of energy efficiency measures. We also have a partnership with the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, providing tailored service offerings to SVLG member companies.
  • Working with high tech equipment manufacturers, such as computing equipment makers, to establish energy efficiency metrics, which will assist IT professionals in making buying decisions based on life cycle costs. PG&E will also consider developing an incentive program for new computing equipment purchases that will offset the costs of purchasing premium efficiency equipment.
  • Forming an alliance with IT and FAC managers to implement energy efficient best practice in the high tech work environment.

What Is on the Horizon

PG&E is supporting the computing equipment industry, research organizations, and the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the development of performance metrics and efficiency standards for servers. When these standards are in place, PG&E intends to provide financial incentives to customers who choose to purchase premium efficiency products.

A consortium of equipment manufacturers and industry and research organizations have demonstrated the energy efficiency potential by designing delivery of direct current power directly to computing equipment racks in data center environments. PG&E can provide financial incentives to customers willing to demonstrate this system in their data centers, and we will develop a streamlined program based on customer demand.
