Energy Management Programs for Schools Pre-K to 12

The California school system is the largest in the U.S. with one out of every eight K-12 students in America attending school in the state. California schools spend $700 million annually on energy costs, which is about the same amount that is spent annually on school supplies.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) can help your school decrease energy use and costs by implementing energy efficiency programs and measures. Lower energy costs leave more funds to meet your district's educational goals. PG&E also offers curriculabased programs to educate staff and students on how to protect the environment by managing energy use.

Our Energy Management programs include:

Energy Efficiency

Energy Audits

  • On-Site Energy Audit—Learn simple ways to save energy and money at your school with an on-site energy audit. Receive a report with energy-saving tips, plus rebate and incentive information from PG&E to benefit your school.
  • Integrated Energy Audit—An integrated energy audit is designed for larger customers with electric demands of more than 200 Kilowatts and provides a comprehensive view of all of your energy management options, enabling you to build a campus-wide energy management strategic plan.
  • Targeted Energy Audit—A targeted energy audit focuses on specific end-use systems and identifies strategies and technologies that offer immediate energy savings for your school. PG&E will work with you to identify the best solutions.

Savings By Design, Incentives Designed New School Construction

  • Savings by Design is an incentive program for new school construction and modernization projects that trigger Title 24. The program provides design tools, resources and incentives to promote energyefficient building design and construction.

Non Residential Retrofits for Schools

  • Save your school energy and money with PG&E’s customized financial incentives. PG&E rewards you for undertaking projects that increase energy efficiency or reduce electrical demand.

Retrocommissioning for Schools

  • Retrocommissioning (RCx) can help you optimize the performance of your school’s existing HVAC, lighting, and control systems. It’s an efficient, affordable alternative to retrofitting.

Demand Response Programs

  • PG&E's Demand Response programs offer incentives to schools to curtail electrical load or demand during times of peak system demand. Find out how your school can benefit financially while helping the state reduce its electrical demand.

Self-Generation Program

  • The Self-Generation Incentive Program provides financial incentives for the
installation of new, qualifying self-generation equipment such as photovoltaic systems and wind generators.

Climate Smart™: Carbon Offsets

While everything should be done to conserve, be efficient, shift usage, and adopt
renewable energy, carbon offsets should be considered to offset the remaining carbon footprint associated with electricity and natural gas usage. The ClimateSmart program allows you to easily balance out the greenhouse gas emissions from your school’s energy use by investing in projects that capture or reduce greenhouse gases.
