Program TitleRetrofitting Crawlspaces
Time, LocationMay 4 (Tuesday, 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm) San Jose--Pipe Trades
Also OfferedJune 23 (Wednesday, 8:30 am to 12:00 pm) Stockton--ETC
DescriptionScientific research and real-world installations both demonstrate that properly closed crawlspaces (in California, controlled ventilation crawlspaces) can provide much better moisture control than conventional, wall-vented crawl spaces in both temperate humid climates and in dry hot climates. Compared to homes with conventional wall-vented crawlspaces, closed crawlspaces can save significant energy and provide improved indoor air quality by reducing the transfer of moisture and other pollutants from the crawlspace into the living space. This new intermediate to advanced class is for home performance contractors, energy consultants, designers, building officials and policy makers who want to understand why and how to successfully retrofit existing residential crawlspaces to optimize home energy efficiency, occupant comfort and indoor air quality.
Audience LevelParticipants are expected to already understand basic building science and have some experience with residential energy retrofits and/or home performance contracting.
